For most of my life, I would consider myself more of a practical thinker. My main focus was computer science and journalism. So, how is it I am moved toward intuitive and spiritual work, a field that is still noted by most as irrational?
It started when I was 17 and began taking an interest in psychology: particularly the work of Carl Jung and the unconscious mind. I was fascinated with the concept of integrating and balancing the conscious personality and the unconscious. While the theory was indeed fascinating, it pales in the comparison of the inner experiences it has since provoked. This opened me up to a whole new realm of the healing arts that I never would have thought possible, if not for my own experience. It also encouraged the opening of both philosophical theories and mystic practices.
Since then, I have embarked on journeys, inner and outer, that have led me to the most meaningful discoveries of my Being. I feel called to this work because we are entering a liberating time of psychological growth. While this is creating a deeper awareness to our inner power, with it is developing an inner sensitivity to our deepest pain, traumas, and shadows. This is manifesting in many catastrophic forms, perhaps most notably in the epidemic of anxiety, depression, and many other complicated neuroses that we all suffer from. As Jung said, enlightenment isn’t “imagining figures of light, but making the darkness conscious”. By transforming our inner pain into something meaningful, we become who really are. And so it is that we can truly be liberated by developing a deeper relationship with ourselves.
Yet, we live in an anti-pain culture which seeks to eliminate discomfort artificially rather than actually dealing with deep emotional and psychological issues, ultimately acting as more a handicap than cure. In my experience I have found that all healing is self-healing, and by helping individuals become more aware of their own intuition, power, gifts, techniques, creativity, etc., they can develop a remarkable capacity to heal and empower themselves.
I sincerely believe the collective state of our species comes down to the integrity and health of each individual. This is why the noble work of self-development cannot be commended enough.
This is what has led me to study, practice, and sometimes teach various forms of holistic healing: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual, on both a collective and individual level. All healing is self-healing, but when we are in the thick of our own psychological forest it can be necessary to have genuine help and inspiration from others you can trust care. My focus is less on myself but on being a vessel to develop my client’s awareness of their own capacity for healing and growth.
